Sal’s Pizza: Penne Alla Vodka (White Plains)

k

Today we visit a second Sal’s Pizza restaurant (to my knowledge there is no relation to the one in Mamaroneck) for a delicious and sizable helping of one of the best pasta dishes known to man, Penne Alla Vodka.

This dish contains some of the best Vodka sauce I’ve ever had. The sauce is sweet and creamy, and is made with prosciutto, there is a nice amount of salty bacon inside, as well as a slight cheese element and a smattering of onions. The flavors mix together well, making this dish just so rich. The pasta was also nice and soft, which is great for soaking up the flavor of the sauce.

But we have to talk about the size of this dish. The portion that Sal’s gives you is massive. I’m no lightweight when it comes to eating, but I was able to eat my fill and then come back later to a plateful of leftovers. The fact that you can conceivably get two full meals out of this dish makes it all the more a must eat.

I wholeheartedly recommend this dish to everyone; the richness alone is worth it. Whether you are Italian, or otherwise, this dish is something everyone should try at least once; but I have the feeling that after trying it the first time, once will not be enough.

Anthony’s: Patty Melt

One of America’s most popular foods is the burger, and one of its favorite comfort foods is the grilled cheese; and when put together, they become the Patty Melt, America’s ultimate comfort food.

Now granted, there is nothing special about any of the ingredients in this patty melt, everything by itself is rather pedestrian. But somehow, when put together, Anthony’s patty melt is really tasty.

The white bread is grilled so that it is nice and crispy, while the inside is smothered in sweet, gooey, American Cheese. I chose the option to add crispy, salty bacon as my secondary meat to the tender, decently sized burger patty. Together, they form a wonderfully comforting combination of flavor and texture.

If you are looking for a nice little comfort food to tide you over until the next meal, while providing great taste, Anthony’s patty melt is a great option. With this sandwich, Anthony’s took the plain and simple, and made it a must eat in Westchester County.

Roosters Market: Sicilian Sandwich

tp1861_472

If you grew up in an Italian family or spent any considerable time around one, you have probably had a wonderful dish comprised of mozzarella, tomato, and basil. We all know how good that is, but imagine that as a sandwich…with meat…and peppers; that’s what you have in Roosters’ Sicilian.

20151103_104831

This sandwich is absolutely delicious. Served inside a nice, soft wedge of bread, the ingredients within are of the best quality.

The mozzarella was fresh and very spongy, the prosciutto was slightly salty, and the salt flavor that it had coalesced with the rest of the flavors perfectly. Not only was the prosciutto tasty, it was also plentiful. The tomatoes were juicy, the peppers roasted nicely, and the Italian dressing that topped it off was quite delicious.

Every single ingredient in this sandwich works alone, and together, but preferably the latter, and Roosters has struck upon a very good twist on a classic Italian dish.

Royal Scarlet Deli: Philly Cheesesteak

royalscarletstore

If you know me at all, you know I’m a huge fan of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, which is why I’m always trying to find the next great vendor of this particular cuisine. Enter Royal Scarlet Deli in White Plains.

The bread was soft and of good quality, and the meat was tender, well seasoned, and steak like. The melted cheese was just right, and abundance of onions were sweet, juicy, and crunchy. To top it all off, this sandwich had a moist, and tasty gravy throughout.

It is always nice to find another place that can make a good Philly, and that’s what we have in Royal Scarlet Deli; so if you want a good tasting cheesesteak that will fill your belly and please your taste-buds, I suggest the one at Royal Scarlet Deli.

Piper’s Kilt: Steak Sandwich

o

While Piper’s Kilt is widely known for their burgers, but they also happen to make a mean Steak Sandwich.

20151018_135702

Piper’s Kilt makes their Steak Sandwich with soft and supple garlic bread, which is a really nice touch on a sandwich like this. The steak itself was THICK; much thicker than I expected, and it made every bite a meaty mouthful. How thick was each piece you ask?

20151018_140315

Along with its thickness, the steak was pretty tender and easy to chew, which is always a plus; and in terms of the amount of steak pieces given, needless to say this sandwich was very generous.

Topping it off where the sweet and crisp sauteed onions that melded nicely with the steak and garlic bread; the combination of all three flavors make this a very good sandwich.

While I can always recommend you visit Piper’s Kilt for the burgers, they are really more than just great burgers. Whether its a Steak Sandwich or Mac and Cheese, Piper’s Kilt does it right, and is worth the honor of your patronage.
