The Lazy Boy Saloon: New England Clam Chowder

lazy-boy-saloon

As an avid lover of New England Clam Chowder, I am always interested when someone claims to have a can’t miss chowder. For this reason, I had to try the one that Lazy Boy describes as “one of the BEST chowders you’ll ever have” due to their “homemade secret recipe.”

This chowder was a bit different from the ones you are used to having, a good thing to be sure. The first thing I noticed is that Lazy Boy is not stingy when it comes to the amount of clams in their chowder; as this bowl is proverbially crawling with them. It is always nice to be able to get full mouthful of clams with every spoonful you take, and this serving doesn’t disappoint.

There are also quite a bit of vegetables as well as some nice, tender potatoes. This chowder had the staple trait of being nice and sweet, but also had a little bit of spice to it. Those contrasting elements of both sweetness and spice do well to counterbalance each other for a unique taste with every bite.

When you go to the Lazy Boy Saloon, you will be presented with a great selection of appetizers, one of the best being their New England Clam Chowder; its a chowder that you need to try, especially on a cold winter day in White Plains.

This chowder has everything you are looking for and more; endowed with hearty and creamy consistency, this dish contains large clams, thick, sweetly flavored potatoes, and nice semi crunchy vegetables. Piping hot, it is the perfect thing to order on a cold day when you need some warmth.

O’Malley’s: New England Clam Chowder

o

Its hard to come by good New England Clam Chowder outside of its namesake location; fortunately for us, it just so happens to be a chef specialty at O’Malley’s in Nyack.

This is by far the best New England Clam Chowder I have ever had (though my experience with this dish has been mostly relegated to New York), and it comes in two sizes; cup, and bowl. Pictured above is the cup, but I readily suggest everyone get the bowl.

O’Malley’s chowder is a pure and accurate taste of New England; thick and creamy, with a nice combination of sweetness and zest. The clams were fresh and had a good chew to them (avoiding the common fault of rubbery clams); the potatoes were hearty, and the vegetables had a good slight crunch to them.

This is an appetizer that could very well be a meal, and by the time you’ve finished it, there is an excellent chance that it will leave you craving more.

O’Malley’s has a plethora of good menu items, with this chowder being one of their best. Whether its the middle of winter, or the peak of summer, O’Malley’s New England Clam Chowder is always worth the purchase, and can give many New England restaurants a run for their money. I hope you will enjoy it soon.
